Have your intentions ever been misinterpreted? Perhaps with your children; when your trying to do things for their good? Or maybe you had a parent who didn’t always have your best intentions in mind and you experienced that. Potty training, chores, serving, these are all things meant to build children up into the people we want to see them become, but at times we miss the reality of that intent. I believe that it’s the same with the Father. At times we misinterpret the trials and circumstances in life. It's easy to become blind and believe that God allows evil to occur to us. It grieves the Holy Spirit when we have a distorted perception of who God is and what is occurring, just as it grieves me when my kids don’t grasp the truth.
James 1:16-18 (ESV) "Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures."
James exhorts us with the Truth, because he realizes that it is possible for us to be deceived. When we have a distorted view of God, our perspective is limited and our evaluation of things can be wrong. So James implores us to not be deceived, to apply the Truth of the Word to think well about Jesus.
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
Good things come from Him. It is easy to be deceived and think that evil as well as good come from God. It's possible to think that He is more like the Greek gods, doing what He feels like at any time for His amusement. Many, many people believe and follow god's which are inconsistent; which waffle on the things that they say. While this may not be us; let's test our assumption briefly.
Are there any powers in your life that you tend to put your Hope in which are inconsistent? Job, Boss, Government, Spouse, Friends... Do you find yourself tossed and lacking in hope when things that you are expecting don't go your way? I know that there are times when I find myself shaken by what I am seeing around me on a day to day basis.
There are times for me when things seem to get so unnecessarily difficult that I begin to reach the limits of my hope, allowing my frustration to take root. There are times when people can make things so difficult that I begin to question what I’m doing. Is this a blessing or a curse?...
This is allowing wrong thinking to enter my mind. When I'm listening to Him and following what He is directing, then I ultimately have nothing to fear. Are the people who frustrate me truly in control? No! While they have a very real impact on my day to day and the things which I will experience, they are not ultimately in control. I can trust that "every good gift comes from above, from the Father of Light". I can trust Father to bless with wisdom, peace, light and life
Can you imagine what it’s like to endure the difficulty and trials of life without knowing and understanding this truth? Without the knowledge that God is with you? That He cares deeply for you? That He loves you and concerns himself with the things that concern you? Without the knowledge that these momentary trials are leading to something greater? Many don’t...
Many around us are living without ultimate hope and are daily carrying that weight. Maybe your neighbor, your coworker, maybe even you? Take a moment to truly consider this: Do I truly know the one that is calling out to me? If you find that you aren’t certain that you know Jesus. If you find a fear or uncertainty, a racing heart then maybe you have yet to fully know him. If that’s you don’t delay. Give your heart to Jesus today. No judgement, only love, for every good gift comes from above.
